Stainless Steel Mighty Springs
Spring assemblies fitted into the banding on large tanks and vessels, so the band moves with thermal expansion instead of loosening or cutting into the insulation.
On a large tank or vessel the shell grows and shrinks with every temperature swing, and a rigid band either works loose or crushes the insulation beneath it. A Mighty Spring - also called a Mity spring - is a stainless compression spring in a slotted housing, fitted into the band so it keeps a steady grip as the equipment moves.
Construction
- Spring and housing in Type 302/304 stainless steel
- Type 316 for marine and offshore service
- Slotted base that takes the banding at each end
- Suits banding up to 19 mm (3/4") wide
How they are fitted
- Loop the banding through the slots at one end and close it with a seal
- Run the band around the vessel to the next spring
- Repeat until the full circumference is banded
- Tension the last band so every spring sits partly compressed
