Mineral Wool Insulation

The workhorse of industrial insulation - spun rock fibre that holds heat, absorbs sound and does not burn, supplied as wire-mesh blankets, slabs, pipe sections and loose wool.

Product Details

Mineral wool is spun from molten rock into a mat of fine, interlocking fibres. That structure does three jobs at once - it traps heat, it absorbs sound and it will not burn - which is why it is the most widely specified insulation on industrial plant in the Gulf, from boiler houses and process piping to plant rooms and acoustic enclosures.

We supply it in every form the site needs, from wire-mesh blanket for vessels and ducting down to loose wool for packing, and we can put the jacketing, banding and vapour barrier on the same delivery.

Why engineers specify it

  • Continuous service up to 750 °C, with fibres that do not melt below 1000 °C
  • Non-combustible: Euroclass A1 to EN 13501-1
  • Thermal and acoustic performance from one material
  • Resilient - it recovers its thickness after handling, transport and vibration
  • Water-repellent, chemically inert and low in chlorides
  • High compressive strength in the upper densities, for load-bearing and trafficked areas
  • Rot-proof and dimensionally stable for the life of the plant
  • Cuts with a knife and wraps to shape on site, with no special tools

Supplied as

FormThicknessDensity
Blankets with GI or SS wire mesh30-100 mm40-128 kg/m³
Slabs and blocks, faced or unfaced25-100 mm30-140 kg/m³
Pipe sections, faced or unfaced25-100 mm50-160 kg/m³
Loose wool-Supplied by weight

Pipe sections cover 0.5" to 24" nominal bore. Facings are available as aluminium foil, FSK or glass tissue, and blankets can be stitched to galvanised or stainless mesh depending on the service temperature.

Typical values for a 100 kg/m³ product. Conductivity moves with density, so ask us for the data sheet of the grade you are specifying.

Where it is used

  • Boilers, steam lines and hot-water piping
  • Vessels, tanks and ducting in refineries and petrochemical plant
  • Power generation and district cooling plant rooms
  • HVAC ductwork, where the same slab does the thermal and the acoustic job
  • Acoustic enclosures, partitions and fire-stopping
  • Marine and offshore installations

Questions about Mineral Wool Insulation

On site the two words are used for the same thing. Rockwool is a brand name; mineral wool - also called rock wool or stone wool - is the material itself, spun from molten rock. We supply it to specification and can match the density, facing and temperature grade a drawing calls for.

Up to 750 °C in continuous service. The fibres themselves do not melt below 1000 °C, which is why the same material is also used for fire protection.

Wire-mesh blankets at 40-128 kg/m3 in 30-100 mm, slabs and blocks at 30-140 kg/m3 in 25-100 mm, and pipe sections at 50-160 kg/m3 in 25-100 mm to suit 0.5" to 24" pipe. Loose wool is supplied by weight.

Yes - mineral wool is classified Euroclass A1 to EN 13501-1, the highest reaction-to-fire class, so it adds nothing to a fire load.

Yes. The open fibre structure absorbs sound, so one slab handles both jobs on plant rooms, ductwork and enclosures. Higher densities absorb more at low frequencies.

The product is water-repellent, chemically inert and low in chlorides, so the wool itself does not drive CUI. What matters is keeping it dry - we supply the cladding, banding and vapour barriers to do that as part of the same order.
