Aluminized Steel Type 2 Cladding
Hot-dip aluminized steel to ASTM A463 Type 2 - the strength of steel with an aluminium skin, for chimneys, hot ducts and fire-resistant shells where temperatures rule out plain jacketing.
Aluminized steel is low-carbon cold-rolled steel hot-dipped in pure aluminium on both faces. The bond between the two is intermetallic, not a paint film, so it does not peel - and the aluminium forms a passive oxide layer that protects the steel far above the temperature at which ordinary jacketing gives up.
Specification
- ASTM A463/A463M Type 2
- Coating: pure aluminium (≥ 99%) both sides, applied hot-dip
- Coating weight approximately 305 g/m², around 50 µm per side
- Base material: low-carbon cold-rolled steel
- Smooth, mill finish
- Excellent formability - corrugation and bending compatible
Temperature
- Continuous service up to 450 °C
- Intermittent exposure up to 1100 °C
Why engineers specify it
- Superior corrosion resistance through a passive aluminium oxide layer
- Structural stability at high temperature
- Long-term durability from the intermetallic bond
- Resists salt spray and chemical fumes
Where it is used
- Hot pipe and duct cladding
- Equipment jackets
- Chimney and ventilation protection
- Fire-resistant shells
- Refrigeration line cladding
- Petrochemical enclosures
